“Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring” is the internationally familiar title associated with one of the most celebrated chorale settings from Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantata BWV 147, Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, performed in its Leipzig version in 1723.
The famous chorale, “Jesus bleibet meine Freude,” combines a broad and serene melody with the continuous flowing triplet figures that have become one of the most recognizable textures in Bach's music.
The underlying chorale melody is associated with Johann Schop, while Bach's harmonization and instrumental treatment transformed it into the setting known and loved around the world today.
Its combination of calm lyricism, continuous movement and luminous Baroque harmony has made the piece especially popular in classical concerts, church programs, weddings, ceremonies and chamber-music performances.

The arrangement preserves the flowing triplet character and the interaction between the melodic and supporting voices, creating a complete chamber version rather than a simplified melody-only transcription.
The three-part texture works particularly well for a compact string ensemble, making the edition suitable for rehearsal, recital, ceremonial performance, church music and educational chamber ensembles.
